MBBS Internship Rules

NMC has established Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) guidelines that are approved by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). These requirements apply to all MCI-approved hospitals that provide MBBS internships. Here are the rules and restrictions for the internship:

• Medical interns will not be able to provide any medical certificates.
• They cannot execute any medico-legal procedures, such as autopsies, without supervision.
• They will not be permitted to teach at any medical college.
• They are not permitted to participate in medical practice after an internship.
• Interns must follow the criteria set by their individual colleges/institutions.
• Interns are permitted to take a maximum of 15 days of leave with prior approval from authorities.

MBBS Internship Schedule

The medical undergraduates will need to complete the internship of one year at a designated hospital. During this internship, they will be posted in multiple departments for a fixed time duration. They must complete the training of the time duration mandated by NMC and maintain a logbook.

This would be checked regularly by the medical officer during the internship at MBBS.

NMC MBBS Internship Time Distribution

During the 12 month training term, there will be a 15-day elective posting in which students can pick from six different disciplines from the following list:

• Radio-Diagnosis
• Forensic Medicine
• Blood Bank
• Psychiatry
• Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
• Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases

Upon completion of this entire period of internship, MBBS students will be awarded certificates by authorities.

MBBS Internship Salary

MBBS students will be entitled for the medical college's fixed stipend based on NMC standard guidelines. Top government universities pay MBBS interns a monthly salary of around INR 30,000. However, real salaries may differ based on the college and state boundaries.

MBBS graduates often earn higher salaries at top private and government institutions licensed by the NMC. In tier 2 or tier 3 cities, the MBBS internship remuneration is lower. Furthermore, earnings are determined by the merit of the interns who are accepted into the hospital.
