"A piece of advice for anyone applying to medical schools, don’t forget to do those extra readings- they really do help and also treat your textbooks like scriptures because handbooks may take you through exams but they don’t help you learn or grow. "

“I pick up the qualities and perks that I like from people around me and that is what led me to being awarded the gold medal at my convocation ceremony.

While pursuing medicine and have a Dr. before my name has been a childhood dream and also my parents’ wish, it wasn’t been easy. When I realized MBBS would be a difficult ball game I looked into BDS and the prospects of being a dentist. I soon found myself fitting the mould and applying for colleges.
I studied in Orissa at the Institute of Dental Sciences. The introvert in me struggled through medical school particularly in making friends. My time at medical school has in summary been bittersweet.

A piece of advice for anyone applying to medical schools, don’t forget to do those extra readings- they really do help and also treat your textbooks like scriptures because handbooks may take you through exams but they don’t help you learn or grow. Use opportunities at university and clinical settings to grow in aspects of knowledge and practical skills. Most importantly work on your weaknesses – personally for me, that had been the paediatric cases but those also have been the most educational and rewarding to me. While children seen to be difficult patients, I now have progressed in trying to persuade them to listen.

I graduated last year during the peak of the pandemic. My whole internship experienced has been ruined and I haven’t seen a lot many patients due to the lockdowns and patients’ hesitancy. I had the most difficult time of my life as I appeared for my final year exams which lasted 2 months and has aspects of interviews, theory-based examination and practical skills assessments for which I had to go and find my own patients.

Last December I also appeared for my NEET MDS and now I’m about to pursue MDS Endodontics and start my new journey!
