“I was born in Chandigarh - the large hearted city where the answer to every problem is ‘Koi gal nahi’. Since I was a kid, I walked around with a bag of questions, always eager to learn and question everything around me. Why did I become a doctor? Because It’s the most challenging and ever evolving profession, where no two days are the same. We learn everyday- from our mistakes, from every case and every experience. I moved to Bangalore to pursue my dream to be a surgeon.
Along with the commitment of years to study, also comes the challenges we face at the personal front. For some reason, I was not very liked by my lecturers. I was often discouraged and told time and again that they were certain I would not graduate medical school. But I did, and now I’m an intern at SIMS & RC hospital in Bangalore.
I’ve realized that in our daily lives we all need to filter out the view of the world. We are what we believe. Dr. Nitin Kumar, was one such professor who made me believe. He was my surgery professor who continues to inspire me and mentor me. He not only taught me incisions and extractions but also true lessons of life. He influenced me to acquire good communication skills because patient care does not end at surgery. Communicating with troubled and worried families requires clarity, empathy and love.”
